Women Sketches: The Record of the Growth and Strength of Women
“Every 3,000 years there's a big change.” After the Opium War in 1840, with the gradual change in the nature of society and the introduction of modern Western thought and aesthetic concepts, Chinese women were becoming more open-minded, moving from the pursuit of physical liberation to the pursuit of intellectual liberation, personality independence and personal freedom.
The Library has selected news reports and pictures of Chinese women from the Illustrated London News to present the social image of Chinese women from the perspective of Western observers. Let’s follow the step of western reporters, and walk into the time when Chinese women were emancipating themselves and gradually blossoming into women.
In addition, at the library atrium, there will be a book exhibition of “Women’s Self-development”, which will convey the admirable female power in various fields in different times. Specially selected book excerpts will be shared with you through the campus radio. Stay tuned!

In September 2010, the book "Haining Library Collection of Rubbing from Bronzeware or Stone Tablet" (published by Xiling Seal Engraver’s Society) is a selection and introduction of 46 kinds of rubbing. Some of the selected rubbing are local rubbings from stone inscription, which are recorded in some local chronicles; some of them contain the calligraphy of Haining calligraphers or inscriptions of Haining collectors' seals, etc., all of which have valuable local documentary value.

The donation shows the close cooperation and reciprocity between the library and Haining local cultural institutions, jointly promoting the utilization of Haining local cultural resources, and laying a good foundation for more in-depth college-local cooperation in the future.
