Reading Bridge “One Book” Project: A Marathon of Reading Journey

When life is eternal, reading goes on! This Saturday, the library will hold a "marathon" of reading journey. In this special journey, it will start from the infinite universe and the limited life of mankind and then take you to explore the origin of the universe, relativity, individual and group psychology, and other ancient propositions.

Activity One: Independent Thinking and Critical Consciousness: A Book Club of The Crowd

Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, thinks that The Crowd is a well-deserved masterpiece. As the originator of group psychology, the mob describes the collective mentality very accurately. As being voted first for the book to read in summer vacation, a book club of The Crowd will be held as scheduled. If you have some understanding of this book, please come to join, and talk to us.

At university, the stack of books and articles to read and study can seem endless, especially when you are reading in a foreign language. How can you read effectively, so that you learn what you need without wasting time on what you don’t? How can you read actively and critically, really thinking about what you read? In this lecture, we will consider some strategies and tips for effective reading, using Stephen Hawking’s bestseller A Brief History of Time as an example.
