The 2024 Cultural Carnival is about to kick off, bringing a cultural journey through time, a feast of ancient books, and a touching dialogue with history. Here, we will encounter ancient books, not only tracing their historical threads but also feeling their warmth and vitality. Join us in exploring the wisdom and beauty carved by time. Event 1: "The Birth of a Book" - A Journey Through the Life of Ancient Books Date: December 9 - December 31 Location: Library Atrium Introduction: "All principles of things and phenomena lie within our hearts," and ancient books are no exception. This exhibition centers on the "birth" and "rebirth" of ancient books, presenting their life stages from production, binding, damage, to restoration through six dimensions: "Paper, Block, Binding, Condition, Restoration, and Tools." Event 2: The Artisan's Touch - Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Date & Time: December 12, 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM Location: Multi-function Hall, 1st Floor, Library 1. Woodblock Printing Experience Introduction: Experience the art of woodblock printing, a treasure of Chinese culture, and take home a piece of this ink-scented heritage. 2. Thread-bound Book Making Introduction: Learn the traditional techniques of four-hole stitching and bookmark pasting, creating your own thread-bound book. 3. Stone Rubbing Experience Introduction: Discover the ancient art of stone rubbing, capturing inscriptions and patterns onto paper for a lasting memento. How to participate: Drop by anytime during the event. For thread-bound book making(limited 10 spots) and stone rubbing(limited 20 spots). Register via the provided link or QR code. Event 3: Journey Through Time - VR Experience "Ancient Books Quest" Date: December 12 Location: Library Atrium Introduction: Experience the mysteries of oracle bone inscriptions, the secrets of astronomical observations, the tension of border defense, and the depth of Buddhist art through four immersive stories: 1. Oracle Bones: Inscription No. 6006 from the Peking University Library Collection 2. Ming & Qing Dynasty Archives: The Observatory Ferdinand Verbiest’s Paperwork 3. Han Bamboo Slips: Border Defense Regulations 4. Dunhuang Manuscripts: Divination Session Schedule: 6 sessions available, each session limited to 3 participants, 30 minutes per person.
