Call Number (Shelf Position)
Normally call numbers of books in our library have two lines: the top line is the code of Chinese Library Classification (CLC) and the bottom line is the category number. Some multi volume books will have a third line. The content of the third line is the volume number, which represents the number of volumes in a set of books. The classification number represents the content of a book. The category number generally uses the author number, that is, the author's information is displayed. The author information generally displayed in our library is the Pinyin initial of the author's surname. There are also other situations. For example, the category number of a biography uses the initials of the name of the person to be put down in writing.
First, the books are sorted on the bookshelves with the initials A-Z of the classification number in the call number, please refer to the Chinese Library Classification. Books with the first letter of the call number A-K are located on the third floor and those of N-Z on the second floor. The call number identifications posted on the bookshelf help readers quickly find the approximate position of the book classification (A-Z). The books with the same initial in category number are sorted from small to large according to each letter or number after the initial.
Secondly, books with the same classification number are sorted according to the initials A-Z of the category number. Books with the same first letter of the title number are sorted according to the size of the following letters or numbers.
