We cordially invite you to participate in the 6th session of the "Global Vision · Research Leadership" Young Scholars' Academic Skills Enhancement Program at the International Campus, focusing on Transforming Academic Publishing: Navigating the Impact of AI.
Event Details:
- Time: November 6th, 12:00–13:30
- Venue: Multi-function Room, 1st Floor, International Campus Library
- Topic: Transforming Academic Publishing: Navigating the Impact of AI
- Language: English
- Speaker: Dr. Chi Wai (Rick) Lee, General Manager of World Scientific Publishing Company (Singapore). Dr. Lee has over 20 years of editorial and publishing experience in the STM publishing industry. In late 1996, he led the development of Singapore's first online bookstore and e-journal platform, accumulating extensive experience in digital publishing. Since 2009, he has been responsible for managing World Scientific's global operations, as well as its editorial and publishing activities.
Keynote Highlights:
Tailored for young scholars from the author's perspective, this session helps you navigate AI's impact, avoid pitfalls, and boost your publication competitiveness. An STM publishing veteran with 20+ years of experience will share what editors value and avoid, turning insider insights into actionable strategies:
- AI is reshaping the entire publishing workflow—from ideation and writing to submission and peer review. While boosting efficiency, it carries misconduct risks; authors must build sound awareness.
- AI can help identify research gaps and refine manuscript structure and language, but "AI hallucinations," inadvertent plagiarism, and ghostwriting may trigger rejection or integrity crises. Knowing the boundaries is key to using these tools wisely.
- Essential compliance: AI use must be disclosed, and AI cannot be listed as an author. The session will offer practical guidance on drafting an "AI Use Statement" to protect yourself and earn editors' trust.
- Looking ahead: As AI-assisted peer review and content discovery grow, how can young scholars position themselves strategically to make their work more visible, cited, and recognized?
