During the Renaissance, art and medicine shared a spirit of rediscovering the human being. No longer merely content to follow old authorities, they turned to observation, practice, and reflection, seeking new understanding in the human body, proportion, space, and the phenomena of life.
Art depicted human form and emotion through line, color, and composition; medicine came to understand the human body and life through observation, recording, and inquiry. Though seemingly different, they inspired each other in the same era: art made medicine visible, while medicine brought art closer to reality. Shared themes such as perspective, proportion, structure, and form allowed art and medicine to intertwine and grow in the soil of the Renaissance.
