On the evening of September 23, the library held the one book project activities for freshmen, invited Mr. Hugh Smith from the Language Center of the International Campus, to give a short lecture and book club, Living Library: Literary Creativity and Scientific Imagination" and " Book & Coffee: Book Club the Metamorphosis.

As night fell, amidst the aroma of coffee from the reading corner, the Living Library lecture on "Literary Creativity and Scientific Imagination" quietly kicked off as Mr. Hugh Smith led freshmen into a lively and profound dialogue.
Mr. Hugh Smith cited numerous celebrities' insightful quotes on the relationship between literature and science as introductions, guiding each participant to rate these quotes based on their level of agreement. This interactive session not only invigorated the atmosphere but also prompted everyone to deeply consider and express their views based on personal understanding and stance.
Under this interaction atmosphere, the relationship between literature and science was gradually unveiled, and participants can have a deeper understanding. From "the boundaries between literature and science" to "how they are consistent," students actively asked questions, and shared different opinions, the inner connection between literature and science became increasingly clear.

As the first session, the book club of The Metamorphosis began in a casual and relaxed atmosphere.
As a classic in modern literature, The Metamorphosis leads readers into a bizarre world. The astonishing transformation of the protagonist Gregor Samsa, the subtle changes in family relationships, and the struggles and conflicts deep within humanity are vividly portrayed. It reveals the alienation and loneliness of individuals in modern society, making readers feel both absurd and humor, and prompting profound reflections on humanity.

Students engaged in heated discussions around topics such as the symbolism of "metamorphosis" and “changes in the family”. Not only did they discuss the plot and characters in the book, but they found themselves and reality in the book.

Activities for "One Book Project for Freshmen" were successfully held, attracting over 15 readers, including some international students. They immersed themselves in Kafka's classic The Metamorphosis, exploring profound philosophy and unique insights into humanity and society through discussion, while also inspiring readers to rethink the real world.
In the fast-paced modern life, a reading journey with slow pace became rare for us. Readers expressed their eagerness for the library to continue organizing such reading sessions for rest, reflection, and growth amidst their busy study and work. Let us look forward to the next gathering, continuing to navigate the vast great books, explore the unknown world, and feel the charm of literature.
