The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) was established in 1818. It is the eldest professional engineering organization in the world, with a history of nearly 200 years. It is still a non-profit industry-academic organization and the world's largest independent organization representing individual civil engineers. At present, the membership is in more than 100 countries, with more than 80,000 people.
ICE is also the only academic institution in the international civil engineering industry that has the dual functions of academic exchange and professional qualification certification. The ICE International Practice Qualification Certificate issued by ICE is the only internationally recognized certificate in the field of civil engineering.
Established in 1836, Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers is a landmark publication of ICE, and the eldest consecutive publication in the field of civil engineering. 18 series covered the key areas of researching and practicing in civil engineering. The series is published by Thomas Telford, which is wholly owned by ICE. Thomas Telford also publish 6 civil engineering journals with high standards, 4 of them are included by SCI.
