Introduction

The construction of international campus library begun at 2015 and it was first opened in September 2017. Next to the Bell Tower, the library is one of the landmarks of International Campus, Zhejiang University.  By the northeast side of the Central Lake, it is an elegant third-floor octagonal building, which occupies a land of 9606 square meters, with six hundred seats and hundreds of thousand books.

The aim of the library is to offer world-class resources, space and service to make the campus an international education base. To fully use of resources, resource development is subject-focused, and, thus, involves subjects of the campus, such as Biomedical Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Business, and Literal Art. Of the resources, English printed books representing 70% is the majority, and its percentage will increase over time. In addition to paper works, very rich e-resource, which involves all the disciplines, is accessible in the international campus, including over 400 databases, above 1.7 million e-books and more than 79 thousand e-journals.

By absorbing the experience of library design in China and the whole world, readers can access to 90% of the total space, based on the principle of modern service in library.  A variety of service is integrated to satisfy students’ various needs, including collecting, borrowing, reading, consulting, studying and printing. Functions differ in the three floors. The first floor is designed for casual and cultural purpose, in which Multi-Functional Room and Fusion Café is the typical of Communicative and Service Zone. Books of all subjects are collected in the second floor where students can study in a quiet environment. The third floor is characterized by Special Collection and Innovative Space. Books of institutes are put in separated stacks, and study rooms are equipped with advanced electronic devices.
